The kong is one of the best toys in the market due to having many uses and being very durable. Made of non toxic rubber the kong can be used to train your dog. Simply add food to the inside of the kong and the dog will enjoy getting bit by bit out while keeping them quiet and occupied. Which kong is right for my dog?
Its important you choose the right kong for your dog, Over time your dogs jaws will become stronger. Choosing a kong that is to weak will leave the dog ripping it to shreds in no time.
If the kong is for a puppy then choose the swirl coloured ones. As these are designed with the puppy's teeth in mind. When your dog is much older then its time to try other kongs.
Its best to start with the most common red kong, also choosing a size that will be right for your dogs mouth. If the kong is not strong enough and you start to see the dog tearing it up. Then its best to get a more stronger one such as the black kong
The black kong is called Extreme Kong. Its made of a much stronger rubber than other kongs.
How do i get my dog to play with the kong?
The best thing to do is to fill the kong with food while giving the dog a easy time getting it out. Put it at the front of the kong instead of deep inside. From there you can make it more harder over time. This will give the dog more determination to get his treat.
The best way i have found is to freeze the kong with food inside it. This will give the dog more of a challenge.
What can i put in the kong?
What you would usally feed your dog can be used in the kong. The dog will have more pleasure trying different types of food. Mixing and mashing the food and then placing into the kong is a much better idea. Choosing food that your dog loves.
By creating a thick liquid mixture and placing into the kong with a spoon. It will be more harder for the dog to get. Where as normal dog biscuits will just fall out. Try filling the kong with different layers of food as the dog gets more inside. This will give the dog different tastes.
Remember the list is endless to what your dog can eat. By filling the kong with different food you will be sure your dog will never get bored.
Also be sure to clean your dogs kong before filling it up. They can be cleaned in warm soapy water or in a dishwasher.
